Mageia, an Mandriva based Linux distribution has completed two years of existence. The distribution was founded back in September 2010 and unlike Mandriva, its totally community based distro that relies on contributions from community for its working.

Ekiga is a free alternative of Skype that supports Voice over Internet Protocol and Video Chats and Conferencing. The app was updated and this is the last bets release before Ekiga 4.0. Ekiga 4 will be based on GTK2 and is scheduled to be released soon.

grub customizer

If you often need to customize GRUB entries, the usual way we do this is to edit the configuration files by hand. With GRUB 2.00 arriving, this has become more complicated as GRUB entries do not reside on a single file. However, GRUB Customizer is a nice app that allows you to view, edit and manage GRUB entries in a simpler way.

Gnome developers are working to make a Calender app integrated with the Gnome desktop. Note, the Evolution software suite also features a Calender app, but this software will be separate. This app will also allow you to integrate online calenders like Google, Facebook etc in your desktop

Ubuntu has been making repeated efforts to make its OS simpler for most desktop users. Some of the past changes included hiding technical details of Updates and improving the software center to make it suitable for the average home user. Here comes another pleasant update from the Canonical team, hiding kernel entries in GRUB boot menu.

The Kubuntu team has pushed an update of KDE 4.9.1 Plasma Workspaces, Applications and Platform in their repositories. This is the first distro to adopt KDE 4.9.1. KDE 4.9.1 comes as a bug fix release over the previous KDE 4.9 series desktop.
