Android 5.0 May Lock Horns With Windows 8, Desktop Mode Rumored

The mystery around Android 5.0 aka Jelly Beans is deepening. The rumors are rife which indicate that Android may pose threat to Microsoft's Windows 8, also expected to hit the market later this year.

A Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin is claiming that Google may introduce a new mode with Android 5.0 which will enable users to run Android on their desktops which will automatically optimize to the desktop.

There may be some possibility as Motorola developed a technology called Webtop OS which enables a user to connect the phone to some big screen. It doesn't just show your phone screen on the big screen, it optimizes itself for the bigger screen. With Motorola acquisition cleared, there is no doubt that Google will make such a great feature part of Android. This also means that Android can now be also used at a desktop OS. Many Acer netbooks come with Android pre-installed. Asus Transformer has already proven that Android can be very successful as a Desktop OS.

Look at the video below and you might thing you are using a desktop OS.

Why Android may succeed as a desktop OS?
People generally don't care what OS they use. They care about applications and what they can do with their systems. GNU/Linux has largely failed in the desktop space because non-Linux users can't do quite a lot of things.

Google on the contrary focuses on what users need. You can very easily stream services like Netflix and Hulu on your Android and ChromeOS devices. You have more than 387,830 apps in the Android market, which pretty much covers most of what an average user needs. If Android becomes a desktop OS, the app developers will suddenly have a huge market.

However, all of it is rumor until Google makes some announcement. The only possibility for such an announcement is Google I/O summit slated for this June. So, take these rumors with a pinch of salt.
