Kees Cook, an Ubuntu Security Engineer, has resigned from Canonical after a 5 years long stint. Kees will join Google's ChomeOS team.
Kees writes on his blog, "This month, I will have been with Canonical for 5 years. It’s been fantastic, but I’ve decided to move on. Next week, I’m going to start working for Google, helping out with ChromeOS, which I’m pretty excited about. I’m sad to be leaving Canonical, but I comfort myself by knowing that I’m not leaving Ubuntu or any other projects I’m involved in. I believe in Ubuntu, I use it everywhere, and I’m friends with so many of its people. And I’m still core-dev, so I’ll continue to break^Wsecure things as much as I can. :)"
Kees (pronounced case) became involved in the Ubuntu community around Dapper, but have been using Ubuntu since Hoary. As the lead sysadmin at OSDL, he chose Ubuntu as the default distro for all new servers, replaced most of the aging RedHat systems, and kept the visitor lobby stocked with fresh Ubuntu CDs.
Kees wears many hats. He is a kernel.org admin (a site which was recently hijacked), where he work on maintaining the mirror network for the Linux Kernel, as well as handling user accounts.
