LG Electronics has announced in a Korean press release that it is planning to release an Android-based tablet by the end of the year.
LG earlier, during Computex 2010, showcased a Windows running tablet. It is unclear if LG is dropping the Windows tablet or will have tablets running on both Windows as well as Android.
Tablets are a new segment. Unlike traditional PCs, these tablets are low-powered machine to primarily access the web and consumer rich data like images, videos and music.
Linux makes more sense here as it enables vendors to not only keep the cost low but also customize the devices as per user feedback. Windows based machines have all the drawbacks of a proprietary technology including the inability for the vendor or the user to tweak it as per their use.
