Apple's iPhone may have its niche, but Google's Android is going for a massive takeover.
According to a report by The Nielsen Company, Android has beaten the iPhone in the US market. 24 percent of the smartphones sales goes to Android. iPhone lags behind with 23.
Blackberry is being crushed in this battle between the iPhone and Android. Most Blackberry users expressed their desire to switch to either Android or the iPhone.
One the contrary 98 percent iPhone users said they will upgrade to the next iPhone, only 71 percent Android users said that they would buy one again.
One point is not clear, when we say Android, it is a huge family of different smartphones offered by various companies. Most Android users switch between smartphones from different companies. An HTC users may go for Motorola for the next version. There is so many options in the Android segment as compared to monotonous iPhone.
At this point iPhone and Android have not started eating into each other's pie. It was expected that the antennagate might affect the iPhone 4 sales, but Apple users have a blind faith in the company and will continue to buy shiny products no matter how many flaws it has.
The losers are Microsoft and RIM, both are losing markets to Android and iPhone. Microsoft is planning to release the next version of its Windows 7 based mobile operating system. But it seems Microsoft has already lagged too behind in the mobile war. RIM is also planning to launch new versions of its devices with more focus on entertainment along with enterprise class solutions.
