The smartphone war is at its peak with Apple on side and Google - Samsung on the other. The Korea Times has reported that Eric Schmidt will meet Samsung mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun while the Google chairman is in Korea for the launch of Nexus 7 tablet. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday in Seol and it is expected that the discussion between the two will primarily include Samsung’s patent war with Apple.

Google’s Android is the top mobile OS while Samsung is the highest seller of smartphones powered by Android and on the other hand, Apple with its iPhone is single handedly fighting a head to head battle against the other two. With Apple, winning the patents law suit against Samsung recently it seems Google is trying to get involved in the situation as Samsung smartphone sales are directly related to the distribution of the Android OS.

Google had confidently stated previously that Android did not infringe upon any of Apple’s patents, but Apple, while amending its lawsuit against Samsung in California, has added Google’s platform in the list of other products that are infringing its patents.

Even though Apple is currently ahead in the legal battle, Samsung has managed to beat Apple’s iPhone in sales figure with 370 million units already sold and predictions are that it will cross 400 million mark this year. Samsung Galaxy S III is on the way to reach 30 million sales by the end of the year while Note 2 is expected to sell 3 million units within first 3 months.
