Meet KDE's Own HUD - AppMenu Runner

Alex Fiestas has restarted working on a project called AppMenu Runner which implements the same ideas of Unity's HUD. 'Actions Lookup' as Alex Fiestas named it more than a year ago (the blog was posted on December 22, 2010) can be a very useful tool, if it can be integrated with krunner. He has made another attempt at Actions Menu (which he now calls AppMenu Runner) and has published the code.

Linux Mint KDE 12 Review: Your Perfect Desktop

Linux Mint team has done a commendable job with Cinnamon project where they are trying to help those users who are not comfortable with Unity. It's great to see a project putting its users above everything else. Despite being a small team, Linux Mint successfully delivered Gnome+ Cinnamon and has now released a great KDE edition.

Canonical Changes Treatment For Kubuntu! [Updated]

Jonathan Riddel has announced that, "Canonical will no longer be funding my work on Kubuntu after 12.04. Canonical wants to treat Kubuntu in the same way as the other community flavors such as Edubuntu, Lubuntu, and Xubuntu, and support the projects with infrastructure. This is a big challenge to Kubuntu of course and KDE as well."

Linux Mint KDE 12 Released

The Linux Mint team has announced the availability of Linux Mint KDE 12. The version is running KDE 4.7 which is a bit older as KDE 4.8 was recently release. However, considering the close release dates it was not possible for the Linux Mint team to packages KDE 4.8. That's not a big problem as you can easily upgrade to KDE 4.8 [we will be publishing a how to soon].

Mind-Controlled Game, Mind Labyrinth, Comes To Linux

Neurosky

Linux has yet to become a platform for gaming. Ubuntu is doing a decent job by increasing focus on polish and looks of the Debian-based operating system to make to more appealing to users and OEMs. Linux may be missing the high-end games, but there are quite a lot of games that one can play under a GNU/Linux system such as Ubuntu, openSUSE or Linux Mint.

Linux Mint Came To Ubuntu's Rescue With Cinnamon

Cinnamon Project

Ubuntu was heavily criticized for Unity which took away a lot of functionality. Then came Linux Mint with the much needed customization. The rise of Linux Mint on DistroWatch is an evidence that Unity has become the reason users are looking at the alternatives of the much loved Ubuntu. Yes, one can say those figures doesn't matter but that would be an ostrich approach where you put your head in the sand and say everything is fine.

Linux Mint Touches All Time High On DistroWatch, Will Ubuntu Recover?

Now, Linux Mint has assumingly broken all time record on DistroWatch and looks huge with 3160 rating which is more than 1,077 more than Ubuntu. There is no way that Ubuntu will cover this distance in the near future, unless they change something dramatically.

Turn Ubuntu Into The Best Gnome 3 Desktop

Ubuntu is undoubtedly one of the most popular Linux-based distros out there (yes, I know LinuxMint  is creating quite a buzz out there, kudos to the hard working LinuxMint team.)

The reason of Ubuntu's (and LinuxMint's) success is partly in its ease of use. Unfortunately, Ubuntu's move to Unity has changed that. Unity while offers new features,  has also taken away what people were used to, and they are complaining.
