KDE is fast becoming my favorite. There are so many advantages of this under-hyped desktop environment. It's highly polished, highly customizable and and nothing less than a dream for a multi-monitor user. If you are already a KDE user, I don't need to tell you all of these things. You already know.

KDE 4.8 was released a few weeks ago. Now, you can easily upgrade your openSUSE machine to KDE 4.8 (KDE 4.8.1 to be precise). Here is a simple how to. Open Konsole and become root

su -

Then run this command:

zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/48/openSUSE_12.1/ KR48

Now upgrade KDE by running this comman:

zypper dup --from KR48

Now reboot your system and you will be running KDE 4.8.

Seasoned openSUSE users know that its a very bad idea to mix repos so do pay attention to this advice:

Warning Remove all repos from the Updated Apps only section (UpdatedApps/Extra) if you are going to use KR48.

If you don't pay attention to the above warning and spill your openSUSE beer, don't blame me.

Note: Thanks Jos Poortvliet for the corrections.
