With an aim to meet strong demand for entry-level tablets, Acer is reportedly planning to ship 10 million tablets in 2013, an increase of 400 per cent year on year.

Of the projected shipments for this year, seven million units will use an Android-based platform, while the remaining are going to be based on Windows.

At present, the company is shipping 200,000-300,000 7-inch Iconia B1-A71 tablets every month. The B1-A71 tablet was introduced back in early-January and falls under sub-$150 entry-level category. Acer also has plans to come up with an 8-inch model and another 10-inch one for the entry-level market, the sources noted.

DigiTimes reports:

After Acer releasing its 8- and 10-inch entry-level tablets, the sources expect the company to lower the price for its 7-inch model below US$130 and to price the 8-inch and the 10-inch models below US$150 and US$200, respectively.

DigiTimes said these details are coming by way of anonymous sources from the upstream supply chain. So whether Acer really ends up shipping 7 million Android tablets this year remains to be seen!
