According to a report in Wall Street Journal, the first Ubuntu smartphones maybe launched this October. The company has not given any details on who will manufacture the phone and which carriers will carry it.

According to the Journal

Mr. Shuttleworth said the new phone operating system will be available in two large geographic markets in October, and while he didn’t commit to North America being one of those, he said North America is “absolutely a key market for Ubuntu.”

Shuttleworth also pointed out that the new and yet to release OS has drawn much interest from several carriers as well. Shuttleworth went on to claim that some carriers are "eager to break up the smartphone market hegemony of Apple and Google."
