The KDE team has announced the release of new update for Plasma, Applications and Platform. The version 4.9.3 brings major update to akonadi 1.8.1 which includes some bug-fixes and enhancements in the software. Users experimenting data loss in PIM applications can finally find relief with this update.

Unlike Gnome, users using earlier version of KDE can directly update to this version without reinstalling their system. For Kubuntu, you need to add the kubuntu-ppa from launchpad. Use terminal and issue the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

For openSuse 12.2, follow this instructions as found from the wiki.

Warning: For openSUSE you have to remove all Extra, Playground and UpdatedApps KDE repos before adding those below.

First add the KDE:Release:49 repository. (Replace 12.1 with your openSUSE version):

zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/49/openSUSE_12.1/ KR49

Now upgrade the packages:

zypper dup --from KR49

Read the release announcement of Kubuntu and openSuse.
