Seems Valve will release the beta edition of Steam client for Linux soon, hopefully by this week. Earlier, they said that Steam for Linux beta will be out by October. Steam's community website is already home to the Linux community and it also hosts forums. Now an official beta access group has also been started.

The group already has over 5300 members and includes a chat room and forum for user interaction. Though there are no announcements, or events coming up, we hope this will be the main access point for all Steam beta related action. The group is open for anyone to join, so if you want to be a beta tester, you can join here now.

OMG! Ubuntu is reporting that there is a possibility of Steam team will be there at Ubuntu Developer Summit.

As well as Valve rocking up on the event for a talk at the summit on Monday, an interesting listing has popped on the ‘Open Steam Works’ site titled “Steam Linux UDS Beta”.

Some of the most popular games coming out with Steam for Linux include Left For The Dead 2, Trine, Amnesia and Team Fortress 2.
