As Tablets become cheaper more Americans are buying, with an increase from 11% to 18% in just 7 months, and it's mainly Android Tablets, dominated largely by the Kindle Fire. Two in ten, 21%, own a Kindle Fire, 8% the Samsung Galaxy, and the rest, a mix of others.
There has been a drop of 29% in one year of people buying an iPad as the realization hits that Android is more open, competitively priced and doesn't involve selling your soul to the devil.
The influx of Android-based devices has changed the tablet market, much as it did for smartphones over the past several years. Of the 44% of adults who have a smartphone, 46% have an Android phone, 38% have an iPhone and 10% have a Blackberry.
There is some catching up to do for Android, the figures for people owning both a tablet and smartphone show a mix and match mentality between the brands with the majority of iPad owners who also have smartphones have an iPhone (57%); whereas just 32% have an Android phone. Similarly, 66% of those who have an Android tablet have an Android phone; and 29% have an iPhone. These figures can only get better for Android as the person who owns an Android smartphone, but an iPad, sees the light.
