Cinnamon 1.6 has been released by the Linux Mint community and it comes with a lots of changes and bug fixes like:

  • Workspace OSD
  • Window Quick-List
  • Notifications Applet
  • Alt-Tab Thumbnails and Window Previews
  • Improved Sound Applet
  • Background selection
  • Nemo Integration

Though this version is still in testing period, you can install it in Ubuntu by adding a PPA. Follow these instructions:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cinnamon

After the installation is over, logout and you will be able to select Cinnamon desktop from LightDM login menu.
