Fedora team has announced the release of alpha of Fedora 18 aka Spherical Cow. As usual, Fedora brings some bleeding edge technologies to the desktop world.

Now you can create a network hotspot with Network Manager Hotspots using computer’s WiFi adapter.
The installation system has been redesigned to add flexibility to the installation process. But the new installer user interface is still undergoing work and may not necessarily be same as that in the Final release of Fedora 18 in November.
Gnome 3.6, KDE Plasma Workspace 4.9, Xfce 4.10, Sugar 0.98, and MATE Desktop introduced in Fedora 18.
The Riak NoSQL database is included for the first time in Fedora 18.
Offline system updates now adds support for installing OS packages at Boot, giving administrators the ability to upgrade important libraries in a controlled way.
Fedora 18 can now easily join an Active Directory domain or FreeIPA realm.
Fedora is now available with OpenShift Origin providing Platform as a Service (PaaS) infrastructure.
Virt Live Snapshots adds the ability to perform snapshots of QEMU and libvirt virtual machines without having to stop the guest.
The oVirt Engine is upgraded to version 3.1 in Fedora 18 alpha and adds GUI tools
