Cross platform video editor Avidemux 2.6 has been released and it features a ton of changes to make the video editing easier and better. All the video editor internals have been rewritten and user will able to experience improved performance in editing and encoding tasks.

Some of the major changes are:

  • Support for hardware accelerated framework: VDPAU only for the moment
  • OpenGl filters (only Qt4/mac & linux)
  • Support for more scripting languages: Spidermonkey, TinyPy and QtScript
  • Multiple audio tracks support (in / out)
  • Deal with time and not assume constant framerate. You can now edit your .ts and keep a/v sync

Avidemux in Ubuntu Software Center is quite outdated and to install the new version, you will need to the the GetDeb repository. After that you can run the following commands in terminal for the update:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install avidemux2.6
