Founder and sponsor of Ubuntu, Mark Shuttleworth has invested $1 Million in Inktank, company that provides support to the open-source Ceph project. Ceph is an enterprise level software that provides solutions to distributed storage management.

Quoting from Shuttleworth: “distinctive architecture of Ceph gives it natural advantages over both proprietary and open source competitors”

Ceph was included in Ubuntu 12.04 and will also be available in Ubuntu 12.10. Inktank was founded on May 2012 with the mission of providing professional level support on Ceph to service providers, enterprise, storage system companies and other high performance computing business.
