The first alpha release of Mageia 3 is out. Mageia is a RPM based distribution derived from Mandriva and supported and developed by community. This is going to be the first release after it was decided to concentrate Mandriva solely on desktops and Mageia for servers.
This release is not available in standard CD sized ISO, but rather DVDs and dual ISOs. The reason for not providing live CDs is that the Live CD environment relies on a specific filesystem known as UnionFS which is currently not supported on Linux kernel 3.5.
This alpha release ships with Linux kernel 3.5, the latest KDE 4.9 desktop and Gnome 3.5.91. You can download this release from here.
