If you are a student and need to do a lot of work on your old hardware that doesn't support newer Linux OSes, Zorin OS 6.1 Educational Lite version may be the best choice for you. As this Linux distro is mainly aimed for Windows users, switching to it will not take much pain and users will be more comfortable in an environment of similar look and feel.

The edition features the stable 3.2 Linux kernel, updated and handpicked educational software for your needs and some custom Zorin softwares like Zorin Look Changer, Zorin Internet Browser Manager and some extra software for your old computer. The OS is based on Lubuntu 12.04 and uses LXDE as the desktop environment.

As based on a Ubuntu LTS release, the OS will be supported with security updates for a period of five years. Download this release from here.
