Valve has promised to release a Steam client for Linux “very soon”, but we can expect that only to be a beta release. The final release will ship next February, as per a report published by Phoronix. The initial Steam will feature Left For The Dead 2.

The game is in good shape and runs faster on Linux than Windows with proprietary NVIDIA drivers. Also, it runs flawlessly with open source Mesa drivers in Intel hardware. After the beta release is done, one can expect Valve to port other titles as well, like Half Life, Counter Strike, Global Offensive, Team Fortress 2 etc.

Steam for Linux was announced last year and has already generated excitement among Linux gamers all over the world.
