Chakra Linux, a semi rolling KDE Linux distro based on Arch Linux is dropping support for i686 platform. What it means that 32 bit PCs will no longer be able to install Chakra Linux in their machines. The move came in respect to the fact that Chakra Linux is mostly focused on being a modern distribution. As x86_64 architecture is dominant on market now, it will be convenient to focus on on that architecture only. Also, maintaining two sets of packages is a tough work, given it is a open source project always short of volunteers.

“The Edn series (ISO's following KDE SC 4.7.x ) had a total of about 100.000, now the last series, Archimedes, is at about 260.000. All those new users came with demands for all kinds of packages and features, and Chakra kept filling those demands as much as possible, disregarding the fact that the user demands was fast outpacing the number ofvolunteers actively supporting this distro. Maintaining about 7000 packages (bundles included) in a half rolling distro, at a quality level Chakra has set for itself, with 2-3 packagers doing the work on about 5000-6000 packages is not sustainable.”

If you had purchased your PC after 2005, there is a high possibility that your PC supports x86_64 architecture too.

Chakra's parent distribution Arch Linux supports i686 as well as x86_64 architecture.
