A new improved Nautilus file manager has landed up in Ubuntu Quantal, the upcoming version of Ubuntu operating system. This update has the following changes:
- Reorganized application and gear menu
- Added a menu for view actions
- Added a View options selector to the toolbar
- Added cluebars for Templates and Scripts special directories
- Added ability to reorder bookmarks
- Improved strings in the Autorun prompt
- Improved error message strings
- Improved image Properties page
- Improved Permissions page in the Properties window
- Improved layout of the Bookmarks dialog
- Use the dropped text paragraph as name when creating new files using DnD of text snippets
- Use double quotes instead of ASCII quotes for filenames
- Change default action for executable text files to Display
- Change the view mode and zoom level to be per-window instead of per-folder
- Remove support for Manual layout in icon views outside of Desktop
- Remove the Octal permissions list view column
Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal) is scheduled to release this October. Canonical has plans to bring its own version of Nautilus due to differences with Gnome developers.
