Support for Indian languages have landed up in premier open-source desktop publishing software – Scribus. This will enable Indian publishing houses to use this awesome free software to make journals, newspapers and other publishing materials.

A member of DAKF (Democratic Alliance for Knowledge Freedom) posted in Scribus mailing list:

I am happy to announce that Indic Unicode support for Scribus is developed and tested successfully.  It would be nice if you could test it and provide feedback so as to make it work better. The patch for the stable version of Scribus shall be tested and released shortly.

The development of this support has been done by Appropriate Technology Promotion Society, Kochi, Prajasakti, Andhra Pradesh and Democratic Alliance for Knowledge Freedom, Kerela.

The patch is available from here.
