Google has finally started rolling out custom or vanity URLs for profiles and pages. What it means is just like Facebook and Twitter Google+ profiles and pages will now have customized URLs such as google.com/+muktware or google.com/+swapnil.bhartiya.

Saurabh Sharm of Google writes on his Google+ page

Custom URLs will also be available to people and pages worldwide, so brands like Globo can point readers to google.com/+epoca, or any of their other Brazilian publications.

However, Google+ custom URLs are available only to a limited number of verified profiles and pages. Saurabh writes:

At first, we’re introducing custom URLs to a limited number of verified profiles and pages. But over time we plan to offer custom URLs to many more brands and individuals, so please stay tuned!

The customized URLs for profiles will make it easier for users to share their profiles with others. The real benefit will come as brand recognition for pages as google.com/+muktware is far more recognizable than https://plus.google.com/104354108367295104608.

Google has not given any deadline for when the feature will be available for regular users.

Do you think custom URLs will help you in anyway?
