KDE office and productivity suite has announced a new application that will ship with the next version of the suite – Calligra Author. This tool is different from a word-processor and has been created specially for authors and novelists who need to write long texts and manage them efficiently.

Inge Wallin, initiator of Calligra Author said:

“We will make sure that Calligra Author will be a useful tool for all phases of the writing process. We have seen a lack of dedicated writing tools to create eBooks that at the same time support the Wysiwyg model. We will support modern enhancements of the traditional book format with dynamic contents and the interactivity that will be the foundation of textbooks of tomorrow.”

For novelist, Author will provide all tools from synopsis, writing, reviewing, polishing and publishing. Also, for authors and text book writers, features like multimedia, 2d and 3d animations, embedded web content and javascript scripting have been planned.

The team is open to feature requests. If you are a writer and would like to have some features, contact the team here.

Calligra's next release is scheduled to be out in the later part of 2012.
