The announcement of the first Aakash tablet had taken the world by storm due to its ultra-low price point. The pre-orders that followed the announcement made it pretty clear that it was going to be a commercial success. However, the poor technical specifications and the clunkiness of the actual product disappointed quite a few users.

Now, we see the re-emergence of the Aakash tablet. While addressing the first convocation of the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) at its Hyderabad campus, Indian HRD Minister, Kapil Sibal, announced that the new, improvised Aaskash 2 tablet will be hitting the markets.

He mentioned that an upgraded version of the Aakash tabled will be made available "very soon".

The new tablet will have the following advantages over its original counterpart :
- A 800MHz processor
- 3 hours of battery life
- Capacitive touch screen

Sibal further went on to mention that the large-scale distribution of this tablet has already begun and that it would be officially launched soon.
We can only wait and watch to see if, this time, Sibal delivers a truly world-class device at an affordable price point.
