La Vida is a free and open source game inspired from The Sims. It is currently under development and would be available under the GNU GPL license. The developer created this game during his free time, but currently he is unable to dedicate much time to the game. He is seeking crowd funding to employ developers and 3d artists. Below is a quote of his message.

Hi I'm Mike Hibbert and I'm the lead developer and project manager for La Vida an open source game much like The Sims which will be available for free under the GPL3 open source license.
I've been developing La Vida in my spare time for the last three years and have been responsible for driving the project forward.
La Vida has been a labor of love for me but as time has gone by I've been unable to continue developing because of my day job getting in the way.
To develop La Vida to playable state would take me a year of full time development and a bunch of freelance 3d artists to create content for the game itself.
Without funding this very much requested project can't progress.

If you would like to help the developer, you can donate some money. If you would like to contribute to the project, you can view this page.
