If you are a Chakra user, you will now be able to install and use the newly released KDE 4.9 release right away. The Chakra package maintainers have already packaged them and made them available at the mirrors, so all you need to do is to run an update using pacman.

As quoted from their blog:

“After nearly 3 months of having KDE 4.9 in unstable and last week testing repo's, the Chakra-Project team is happy to announce we feel KDE 4.9.0 is ready for our stable users the same day that KDE announces this release”.

Some of the great features of KDE 4.9 includes full nepomuk integration in Dolphin, back and forward actions using mouse, and greater stability and responsiveness of the overall desktop.

The update instructions are given below:

  • Wait for your mirrors to fully sync, if you are not sure if they have synced, wait one day before pacman -Syu
  • Read all the pacman instructions carefully, and answer "yes" to all replaces questions.
  • After the update is finished correctly, make sure to reboot your system
  • Do not use Apper for updates
