VideoLAN has released a minor update of the VLC media player with severel bugs and security fixes. This version also adds support for new languages like Uzbek and Marathi and brings stability improvements in Mac OS versions and adds support for OS X Mountain Lion. Quoted from the release announcement:

VideoLAN and the VLC development are proud to present a minor update adding support for OS X Mountain Lion as well as improving VLC's overall stability on OS X. Additionally, this version includes updates for 18 translations and adds support for Uzbek and Marathi. For MS Windows, you can update manually if you need the translation updates.

The VLC media player in Ubuntu Software Center is quite outdated. To install latest version of VLC, you will need to add a PPA. Run the following commands in terminal.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/stable-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install vlc
