David Tavares, the developer of Pear Linux, has announced the release of Pear Linux 5 Sunspite. It's based on Ubuntu 12.04 and features Pear OS Shell interface that is inspired a lot from Mac OS X. The desktop environment is a modification of Gnome shell and is both attractive and simple to use.

Pear Linux is stable, works fast and is a powerful OS for everyday use. It is free to download, share and study and is ready to run out of box with full multimedia experience. Firefox and Chrome come preinstalled in Pear OS, along with Clementine, Shotwell, Dropbox, Skype and more.

If you need to install an application that is not installed by default, you can install it easily from the Pear App Store. Installing apps is very simple under Pear OS. The app store supports parallel, multi-threaded downloads.

You can download the latest version of Pear Linux here.
