The KDE Team have released the second release candidate of KDE 4.9 Workspaces, Apps and Development Platform. This release mainly focuses on fixing bugs and further enhancing new and old KDE components. Development of KDE API, dependencies and new features have been omitted in this release.

Key highlights of this release includes:

  • Qt Quick in Plasma Workspaces: More parts of the Plasma desktop have been ported to QML as Qt Quick makes its way into the Plasma desktop. This feature was first introduced in KDE 4.8 and more bugs have been removed as well as new APIs for different apps have been added in this version.
  • The Dolphin file manager has got enhancements in sorting and searching of files based on metadata. Users can expect smoother experience in Dolphin with this release.
  • Deeper integration of Activities for files, windows and other resources.
  • Overall performance improvements and bugfixes that make the KDE desktop more stable.
