PCManFM

The LXDE file manager, PCManFM is on the way to get a stable release. This news comes after we posted earlier that the LXDE art team is busy building a revamped LXDE.

Notable changes in PCManFM 1.0 includes:

  • External thumbnailer support
  • New file attributes dialog
  • Support for modifier keys on drag and drop
  • Symbolic link creation
  • Individual wallpapers for desktop and documentation

PCManFM 1.0 is not yet available in the repos so those of you who would like to test it right now, can get the tarballs from the SourceForge Mirror.

LXDE is a fast and lightweight desktop environment aimed for running in machines which are old or have less memory.

You can have a taste of LXDE desktop by installing Lubuntu or by installing lubuntu-desktop in Ubuntu based distros. LXDE is available for almost all major distributions such as Fedora and openSUSE.
