Android 4.0 came out last year and Google just announced Android 4.1. However, Samsung Tabs are still running Android 3.2 or Honeycomb. We posted about it last week, and now Samsung has started updating their tablets to Android 4.0. As reported by SamMobile, Samsung has pushed ICS firmware update for Galaxy Tab 7.7 via Kies. The update for other Galaxy tablet will follow soon.

The devices getting ICS update in the month of July/August include:
GT-P6210 Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 WIFI
GT-P6200 Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 WIFI + 3G
GT-P6810 Galaxy Tab 7.7 WIFI
GT-P6800 Galaxy Tab 7.7 WIFI + 3G
GT-P7310 Galaxy Tab 8.9 WIFI
GT-P7300 Galaxy Tab 8.9 WIFI + 3G
GT-P7510 Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI
GT-P7500 Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI + 3G

It's great to see that Samsung is delivering Android 4.0. SamMobile has also published firmware for select Samsung devices which you can use to manually upgrade your tablet.

Android 4.0 is a major upgrade from 3.x which was more or less a quick work around to put Android on tablets. This update will bring UI improvements and many new features to these tablets.

The question arises when will Samsung update these tablets to Android 4.1? It seems Samsung was the only company, as reported by TechRadar, which did respond to this query with a promising reply:

"Samsung will soon announce which additional devices are eligible for the Jelly Bean update."

Once these devices are upgraded to ICS Jelly Bean may follow.
