If you love cloud applications and want a full featured office suite at your disposal that also for free, Google docs is undoubtedly the best choice. But for that you will have to open the web browser and go to the site.

Luckily, a developer has created an app in Ubuntu App Showdown that allows you to write, edit and manage Google docs right from the desktop. The application is named GWOffice and with the help of it, you can create and edit word documents, spreadsheets and presentation as running an desktop office suite.

The application features better theme integration and also has App Menu and HUD support. Though its mostly web pages running in the app, editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations are lot more comfortable than browser, thanks to the above features.

There are some areas of improvement at the moment such as it was somehow not pasting content copied from Gedit or other applications. However, it is an amazing app which makes life easier as there is no Google Drive for Linux yet.

The application can be installed for free adding a PPA by following these instructions:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tombeckmann/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gwoffice

GWOffice witll make working with Google Docs a lot easier!
