Facebook is notorious for not only changing privacy policies, but also changing what user's want to show to the rest of the world. The worst problem is what Facebook does is 'opt-out' which means it will implement the changes, whether you want them or not, and then the burden will be on 900 million users to change it to what they want.

The latest foul in Facebook's timeline is it has hijacked user's contact info page and stated displaying email ID that was never used or intended to be used by me. I don't even know how to use that email ID. Now on the contact page Facebook shows 'profile.name@facebook.com' instead of the email ID that I chose to use.

On my profile my primary email ID that I wanted my friends to use was automatically replaced with the facebook email ID. I don't know how Facebook handles such emails. I know when I use Gmail, it is encrypted and only I can see the communication. With Facebook email ID I don't know who else, Facebook partners, government or advertisers, are sniffing my mails. The worst thing is I don't even know where these emails go. I sent an email to my self on my Facebook ID and I never saw it. It's sucked in by the blackhole created by Facebook.

So, the first thing you need to do is change your email ID. Here are simple steps:
1. Go to your info page
https://www.facebook.com/profile.name/info

2. Under Contact Info page you will see profile-name@facebook set as your email ID. Click on the arrow against Facebook email ID and change it to "Hidden from Timeline" and choose your preferred email and change it to "Shown on Timeline".

You can also choose who should be able to see this email ID.

Don't forget to hit the 'Save' button at the bottom. Many users were frustrated that they were not able to change the email ID, the possible reason was they were not hitting the save button.

Now your friends won't see the forced facebook email ID.

Check out this YouTube video for walkthrough of how to change your Facebook email ID.

Cases like these are the reasons why I have switched from Facebook to Google+ as my primary social network.
