Ubuntu 12.10 has started churning out releases. Kate Stewart of Ubuntu has announced the release of 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) Alpha 1. As you are aware alphas are not meant for 'regular' consumption. However, if you are an Ubuntu user and want to help find and fix the bugs you can install it on your secondary machine.

Kate writes, "Alpha 1 is the first in a series of milestone images that will be released throughout the Quantal development cycle, in addition to our daily development images.  The Alpha images are known to be reasonably free of showstopper CD build or installer bugs, while representing a very recent snapshot of Quantal."

What's New?
This is alpha so don't expect any dramatic changes or new features. There are a lot of new packages and you will find is Firefox and Thunderbird 14 and the latest version of Rhythmbox with an improved UI. The Update Manager, as we reported earlier, has been renamed to Software Updater.
