Meet Milou, the alternative of Krunner

The search functionality of KDE software is going through massive transition with Baloo replacing Nepomuk. We have written extensively about it here.

Now KDE developer Vishesh Handa has announced ‘Milou’ which complements the major changes which are being made to the search code-base. He says, “Milou can also be used as an alternative to KRunner, and does provide application launching. The main difference is that it concentrates more on searching.”

Milou will be able to show ‘previews’ of the results. Vishes says, “Milou also offers experimental support for previews for different results types. The most useful of which have been emails.”

The KDE community has decided to release different component independent of other elements, so Milou will also be released independently around the same time with KDE SC 4.13.
