February updates for KDE SC 4.12 arrive

The KDE community has released the updates for KDE applications, and development platform for 4.12 series.

The 4.12.2 is a regular bugfix release so don’t expect any new features. This version also updates the Plasma Workspace (the desktop environment) to version 4.11.6.

Mario Fux writes on the mailing list, “More than 20 recorded bugfixes include improvements to the personal information management suite Kontact, the UML tool Umbrello, the document viewer Okular, the web browser Konqueror, the file managerĀ  Dolphin, and others. Starting with KWin 4.11.6 there is a hint to exclude a window from the closing animation. KSnapshot can use this to ensure that it doesn’t capture itself.”

openSUSE KDE users can update to the latest version by running the dup command for the 4.12 repository, check the instructions here. Kubuntu users should be able to upgrade using the backport PPA and Arch Linux users don’t need to be told what to do.

Greg KH has made 4.12.2 available for openSUSE Tumbleweed users. He wrote on the mailing list:

Just a heads up that KDE 4.12.2 is now in Tumbleweed, so you all should see a lot of packages asked to be updated the next time you run ‘zypper dup’. Many thanks to Jiri Slaby for doing all of the hard work in making this happen, and to the KDE openSUSE developers for packaging it up so nicely that this could happen at all in the first place. If anyone has any problems, please let us know here on the Factory list.

If you are a KDE software user, you can follow the vibrant Google+ community.
