Oppo N1, the CyanogenMod phone, now available for $599

Oppo N1, the first Google certified CyanogenMod phone, is now available for sale from select stores. Oppo is a Chinese Electronics and Smartphones manufacturer based in Dongguan, Guangdong China.

Oppo N1 is a midrange-high phablet sporting a 5.9 inch 1080p IPS display and powered by the Snapdragon 600 processor. Apart from shipping with Cyanogenmod OS, What is unique about Oppo N1 is the swivel camera that swivels 200 degrees. This allows users to use the full 13 megapixel camera both as the front as rear camera – which means you don’t have to compromise with selfies or video chats with a low-grade front facing cameras found on mobile device. You can just swivel the camera and take HD images and videos.

Another notable feature of the phone is availability of Android and CyanogenMod (an OS based on Android source code). CyanogenMod used to be developed by an open source community, but the core team behind CM recently formed a company to offer CM as a commercial offering.

We are looking for aspiring bloggers and journalists for The Mukt. If you are interested, apply now!

The phone is available immediately for US $599 from Oppo stores and a few other retailers based on your location.

I am a Linux user for a little over a year now and an ardent distro hopper. I have used LXDE, XFCE, RazorQT, Gnome 2, Gnome 3, the new MATE, and Cinnamon desktops. I have a soft corner towards Manjaro for being a rolling distro that provides stable packages but my daily driver at the moment is Ubuntu 13.10 with Gnome window manager running KDE 4.11 and Gnome 3.10 which I switch between based on my mood. I'm fond of R for being the most powerful statistical tool. Being a junior consultant in quality, I still don't have the money to purchase tools my peers use but R being flexible, free and completely cross platform was everything I have ever wanted. I also use Steam on Ubuntu to play Team Fortress from time to time, other open source software I use are LMMS and Openshot.

  1. Oppo N1 is considered to be a high end (not midrange-high end) cell phone, as is easily ascertained by its uncompromising specs, and Oppo’s “Quality at Any Cost” slogan.
