Blizzard’s digital card game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is all set to hit Android devices next year, chief creative officer Rob Pardo announced at its BlizzCon event.
The touch-controlled version of the game for tablets has proved to be a great way to play the game. Pardo said that as “not everyone actually has tablets”, the company decided to release the game to smartphones. He also showed on the stage a shot of the game running on an iPhone 5s.
The game has been already announced for iPad, Mac and Windows PC. It will be going into an open beta next month, Pardo said, “but in Blizzard language, that might mean January.”
Hearthstone is loosely set in Blizzard’s Warcraft franchise, hence the subtitle “Heroes of Warcraft.” It’s being built from the ground up on the free-to-play model, though some reports indicate that it’s still easy enough to get into the main game without spending money. What keep things interesting is a combination of tables, illustrated cards, and animated action effects.
Keeping in mind Blizzard’s usually extended development time, it may be the end of 2014 before you actually get to see the game on the Google Play Store.
