KitKat coming to HTC One in January

The HTC One will receive Android 4.4 KitKat, the latest version of Google’s Android operating system, in January next year. The software update will include Sense 5.5, HTC’s updated Android skin.

HTC told CNET, “…the KitKat software update will also bring with it an update to HTC’s own Sense interface. It’s the extra layers of features, like Sense, added by HTC and other manufacturers on top of Google’s software that delay new Android updates from reaching phones, as manufacturers test and approve their bloatware and add-ons to make sure they still work with the updated Android system.”

While Google Play edition One owners should be able to upgrade their devices from the end of this month, owners of Google Play edition of the S4 are also likely to join the early upgrade party.

As of now, there are no updates to follow for users of Samsung Galaxy S4, Note 3 or LG G2.

Jason Mackenzie, president of HTC America, also earlier confirmed to Engadget that “the company is going to aggressively push out the latest version of Android to the HTC One”.

He also said: “we’re not going to [roll out updates]in a lazy fashion. We’re going to make it a priority to have every dot release out on the One within 90 days.”
