Google TV will die to make way for Android TV

Google TV has not seen the same kind of success as Google’s other smashing hit products have enjoyed including Nexus, Chromebook and Chromecast.

According to reports Google is getting rid of Google TV branding and replacing it with Android TV branding.

I am not sure about Google vs Android branding as Google seem to be trying to maintain a distance with Android branding – it rebranded Android Market to Google Play Store. Same was the case with Chromecast which is based off Android but is using Chrome branding. Glass also runs Android but is called Google Glass.

So why would it go in opposite direction and kill Google TV brand only to replace it with Android branding.

One thing is clear that Google TV has not been able to get any market share. The brand has become very weak to drive any sales so rebranding makes sense. So which brand is more powerful to reboot Google TV ambitions – Android or Chrome?

If it’s called Chrome TV then how will Google differentiate between Chrome TV and Chromecast devices.

We are looking for aspiring bloggers and journalists for The Mukt. If you are interested, apply now!

The time will tell which brand Google will pick for its TV efforts.
