WordPress 3.7 introduces automatic updates

The WordPress team has announced the release of version 3.7 which makes WordPress more secure. The release is named “Basie” in honor of Count Basie.

This release introduces a new feature which enables WP sites to automatically apply these updates in the background without intervention of a users. One of the major causes of WP sites getting cracked is that most users never update their core, plugins or themes.

A WP statement says, “The update process also has been made even more reliable and secure, with dozens of new checks and safeguards.”

WP will also encourage users to use stronger passwords by updating the password meter which shows whether your pasword is strong enough or not.

The automatic update feature gives developers new options “around how to control the new updates feature, including allowing it to handle major upgrades as well as minor ones,” says the WP blog.

WordPress users must upgrade their site to version 3.7.

  1. Love that they are encouraging users to adopt better passwords. I use the password generator on my passwordbox app and it works fantastic for this.
