KDE has one of the most advanced desktop environments around which empowers a use to take control of her computing. The KDE community has just announced the release of KDE 4.11 software compilation which includes the desktop environment Plasma Workspaces, applications and the development platform.
All three components received some improvements and polish with this release.
- Plasma Workspaces delivers further improvements to basic functionality with a smoother taskbar, smarter battery widget and improved sound mixer. The introduction of KScreen brings intelligent multi-monitor handling to the Workspaces, and large scale performance improvements combined with small usability tweaks make for an overall nicer experience.
- This release of KDE Platform 4.11 continues to focus on stability. New features are being implemented for our future KDE Frameworks 5.0 release, but for the stable release we managed to squeeze in optimizations for our Nepomuk framework.
OpenSUSE users can upgrade to 4.11 by running the following command (remove if you have any KDE repos added)
zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/411/openSUSE_12.3/ KDE411
zypper dup –from KDE411
Kubuntu users can also use the appropriate PPA (check out this link), and Archers can get it from the unstable repos.
