Surprise, surprise! Amazon.com has finally forayed into the highly competitive e-commerce market of India. Amazon today announced the launch of amazon.in, and with it Amazon brings in the popular and trustworthy shopping platform to the Indian shores, but it has a very stiff competition ahead. India’s largest online store, Flipkart, is doing pretty well with its huge range of products, easy finance options, a solid support, sturdy reviews platform and quick delivery. And then there are other major players in the likes of Infibeam, Myantra, Yebhi, and more. So it will be interesting to see what unique proposition Amazon brings in to woo the apparently satisfied Indian customer. The press announcement reads:
Amazon Seller Services Private Limited, an Amazon.com company, today announced the launch of Amazon’s marketplace in India, www.amazon.in, and two new seller programs – ‘Selling on Amazon’ and ‘Fulfillment by Amazon’, providing customers a convenient and trustworthy online shopping experience and Indian retailers of all sizes a robust and scalable platform to sell their products online with no listing fees and a pay-as-you-go fulfillment services.
As of now, only a handful of product categories are available to shop–Books, Movies and DVDs–with Mobiles, Cameras and other electronics items listed as “coming soon”. Its press release goes on saying:
