Raring Ringtail Dash To Become More Powerful With In-Built Scopes

People at Ubuntu are making sure that the Raring Ringtail release is one the best Ubuntu releases till date. One of the most important things that they heve been working on is the dash, which is one of the most powerful tools in the Ubuntu desktop.

The dash already has a number of lenses and scopes, which lets you search a lot of things by just typing a few keywords. Developers at Ubuntu are extending it with much further, thanks to the hundred scopes project.

Agreed, the dash serves ads too, but somehow developers feel it can be made more useful for the end users, with the search everything and anything concept. Now not only you will be able to search apps, music, videos or status updates from the dash, but also the following:

  • Askubuntu
  • Music on Audacious
  • Calculator
  • Chromium bookmarks (at last)
  • Clementine
  • Dev help
  • Devianart
  • Ebay (Another adware?)
  • Etsy
  • Evolution
  • Firefox bookmarks
  • Foursquare
  • Google Drive (gdrive)
  • GitHub
  • Google News
  • Grooveshark
  • IMDB
  • Launchpad
  • Manpages
  • Open Weather Map
  • Stack Exchange
  • Radios

And a lot more. See the whole list here. Some of them may land up in Raring Ringtail by default

Personally, its exciting to see the recent improvements in dash, but I will like a tool that disables the scopes I don’t need. That way, I can customize the dash to my needs and also make it faster, and hopefully, ad free.
