According to the official blog, “The store runs as an X application under Raspbian, and allows users to download content, and to upload their own content for moderation and release.”
The store already has 23 major applications available for users including LibreOffice and Asterisk. There are classic games like Freeciv and OpenTTD and Raspberry Pi exclusive Iridium Rising. The team also managed to get ‘one piece of commercial content: the excellent Storm in a Teacup from Cobra Mobile.’
Developers can submit their binaries, raw Python code, images, audio or video. The store supports both paid and free apps so it can be a great revenue generation model for developers as well.
The team has released the updated Raspbian images which includes the Pi store, if you are already running Raspbian you can upgrade by running this command:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pistore
If you don’t want to install Pi store, you can visit the store from your browser.
