Drift Innovation, they make action sports technology devices, has announced the Drift HD Ghost. It’s a strap-on tiny HD video camera that you can clamp on to pretty much any part of your body or equipment. It’s the first of its kind that is equipped with a two-way LED indicator which lets you know if the camera is recording or not.
The indicator is on a wrist strap and at a glance you can tell which mode - Video, Photo, Timelapse or Photoburst – you’re in and whether you’re recording or not. You can also take video, photos and change function modes from up to 30 feet (10m) away.
You’ll get around 3 hours recording time on a single charge and it’s got Wi‐Fi and comes with its very own app – Drift Mobile. That means you can use your smartphone as an external viewfinder and remote control. You shoot your jump/afternoon nap/Parkour or whatever and then download the video from the camera to your smartphone instantly and share through the usual channels.
The camera has an upgraded lens design, said to, ‘ensure optically pure performance.’ There’s a choice of 1080p, 960p, 720p and WVGA resolutions and you can simultaneously shoot still photos without interrupting filming.
The company is boasting about the audio qualities of the camera, with the ‘digital and mechanical dynamic modulation technology used and the latest innovations in digital signal processing and wind‐noise reduction to provide crystal clear audio.’ There’s also the option of plugging in an external mic with the camera’s 3.5mm connector.
Other features include; a 2-inch LCD screen and a continuous loop recording feature – ‘save a recorded event up to five minutes after it happens while in Video Tag/Loop mode, which records footage in a continuous loop style. The video clip is stored in the camera’s memory, and will save the clip only if the user chooses to “tag” it.’
Waterproof? Of course, to a depth of 9 foot. (3m) The company also produce a waterproof housing where you can film down to a depth of 180 feet. (60m)
It’s available to pre-order now for $399, and it will start shipping from November 19th.
