The most awaited GIMP 2.8 has been released. If you are using GNU/Linux you can easily install GIMP 2.8 on your machine. While Ubuntu users can use add a PPA to use GIMP 2.8, openSUSE users can do the same with equal ease. [If you are a GIMP user, follow us on Facebook]
I recommend removing the previous version of GIMP to avoid any conflict. So remove GIMP before proceeding.
Open software.opensuse.org and search for GIMP, make sure to select the installed version of OS.
Now below the install button click on the ‘show other version’ option which will open this page.
Here click on the ‘show unstable packages’ option. It will throw an option at you, just hit continue. It will open this page:
Click on the 1 Click Install button of the Marguerite link. It will open Yast to install the package. Go ahead and install GIMP.
When you try to run GIMP you will see this error. BABL version if too old!
You need to upgrade the version of BABL. Open Yast and search for BABL. Then select libbale and look under Versions. Here you will see the option of upgrading it. Select the upgrade option and it will take care of the rest.
Once upgraded just go ahead and open GIMP. You will be running the latest version of GIMP.
