As we mentioned in the previous chapter of this manual, there are two applications that you can use to install or remove software on Ubuntu:
- Synaptic Package Manager
- Ubuntu Software Center
We will use the Ubuntu Software Center.
To install any application, open the Ubuntu Software Center and enter the name of the application in the search box. I want to install Amarok, so let's search for Amarok. You can see Amarok in the results.

Just click on the install button and start installing.

Installation of software is safer and easier in Ubuntu than on Windows. You don't have to worry about viruses getting installed on your PC. Ubuntu Software Center makes it extremely easy to find and install software.
If you don't know the name of the software, just enter the keywords in the search box and it will show you appropriate results. You can select and install the one you want or the one which has a better rating or reviews.
Remove Application
To remove an application, open the Ubuntu Software Center and enter the name of the application that you want to remove. Click on the 'remove' button and it will remove the application from the PC.
